I recently returned from the Wisdom of Trauma conference in the U.S., featuring the insights of Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Peter Levine, and Dr. Scott Lyons. This conference explored trauma as a universal experience, affecting both our mental and physical wellbeing. Continuing professional development is a key part of my role as a therapist, and learning from thought leaders like these reinvigorates my practice, allowing me to better serve my clients.
Over five days, I was reminded of the power of the mind-body connection and the need to address trauma that lingers within us, often buried yet impacting how we live and connect with others. I returned with renewed insight into the deep, intertwined relationship between our physical sensations and emotions and the necessity of release through somatic (body-centred) work.
I’d love to share a few insights from these remarkable sessions, each of which reminded me of the interconnection of our mind, body, and environment. I hope these takeaways inspire you to explore healing pathways in your own life.
