As a follow-up to my previous newsletter on lies, I thought it would be interesting to dive into the topic of secrets.

We all carry secrets—some as light as a fleeting thought, others as heavy as a burden. Secrets are a part of being human; they stem from our desires, fears, and, sometimes, deep shame. While keeping a secret can feel like self-protection, it may carry more weight than we realise.

A secret, by definition, is something kept entirely hidden or shared only with a select few. We begin keeping and sharing secrets at a young age—do you remember those playground whispers? The joy, the power, and the giggles that came with them? Secrets can form strong bonds between friends who trust each other: "I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours." But secrets can also be used as weapons, causing betrayal and harm when they are revealed. As we get older, the secrets we carry multiply—both our own and others. But is this inherently bad for us?
